Watch the new trailer for Tony Jaa and Dolph Lundgren’s film.
Pulling its cast from a host of iconic action movies, Skin Trade examines human trafficking from the perspective of a martial arts action film, with Dolph Lundgren and Tony Jaa on the trail of an international crime lord.
Lundgren (Universal Soldier and The Expendables) plays New York cop Nick Cassidy, dispatched by his chief (Peter Weller) to track down human trafficker Vicktor Dragovic (Ron Perlman).
When Dragovic hides out in Thailand, after kidnapping Cassidy's family, that's the cue for the NYC detective to team up with Bangkok lawman Tony Vitayakul (Jaa).
Also appearing are Chinese-American actress Celina Jade (Shado in comic book hero TV series Arrow), as well as Mortal Kombat Legacy alumni Michael Jai White and Cary Tagawa.
Co-written by Lundgren himself after he read about the global phenomenon, Canadian-Thai production Skin Trade is directed by Thai helmer Ekachai Uekrongtham, who had previous experience with bone-crunching action and gender politics in 2004 Muay Thai biopic Beautiful Boxer, before filming the Singapore-set Pleasure Factory, which was part of Cannes' Un Certain Regard competition in 2007.
The film is yet to announce a North American release date, though a 2015 arrival is anticipated, with German, Australian and South Korean distributors already in place. — AFP Relaxnews
