The awards will feature some of the country’s top films from the past 12 months.

After months of delay, the 26th edition of Festival Filem Malaysia (FFM) will go on as planned on Nov 1. The event to honour the achievements in the local film industry will take place in Auditorium Tuanku Puan Chik at Kompleks Penyiaran Tuanku Muhammad in Seremban, Negri Sembilan.

Organised by the the National Film Development Corporation (FINAS) with the support of Communications and Multimedia Ministry, the event will be broadcasted live on Astro Ria (Astro Ch 104), Maya HD (Astro Ch 135) and TV2 (Astro Ch 102) at 8.30pm.

This year’s biggest contender is Penanggal, which was directed by Ellie Suriaty; it has received 15 nominations including for Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Film. Trailing closely behind is Nik Amir Mustapha’s Kil with 11 nominations including Best Screenplay and Best New Actress.

The star–studded event will also see nominees like Lisa Surihani, Bront Palarae, Datuk Rosyam Nor, Sharifah Amani and Faizal Hussein competing in various acting categories. Altogether, there are 31 awards up for grabs.

FFM will kick off with an official launch on Oct 29 at Empire Hotel in Subang Jaya, Selangor where 11 awards will be given out. The main event on Nov 1 in Seremban is set to feature performances by Datuk M. Nasir, Hafiz Suip, Misha Omar and Awie.
