Multi-talented local musician Danny One will be representing Malaysia at the 14th Global Chinese Music Awards (GCMA) happening at Guangzhou, China next month.

One was declared the winner of the Best Performer Award (Malaysia), which was voted upon by 988 deejays, entertainment journalists, as well as the public.

Having been in the industry for about 13 years, this is the first time One has won a prize of this magnitude.

During the presentation ceremony at 988’s office in Petaling Jaya on Monday, the singer said that he is incredibly grateful for all the support he has gotten from his fans through these years.

Referring to his recently released EP album Extra (Keh Leh Feh in Cantonese meaning an extra in a movie), he says, “I’ve never won any big awards until now. I’m glad that I am no longer a ‘keh leh feh’, and I have finally won something!”

The 14th Global Chinese Music Awards is one of the most prestigious music awards show in the Chinese music scene. First introduced in 2000, it is presented by seven affiliate Asian radio stations from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia, with each radio station taking turns to host it every year. 988fm was the host for last year’s awards ceremony at the Putra Stadium, Bukit Jalil.

Besides 988, the other stations include this year’s hosts Music FM Radio Guang Dong, Beijing Music Radio, and Shanghai Dong Gan 101 from China, Taipei Pop Radio, Hong Kong’s RTHK, and Singapore’s YES 933.
