First look at James Dasher’s dystopian future tale.

Young adult fiction continues to prove a rich vein for film adaptation prospectors: a debut trailer for The Maze Runner provides us with the first look at James Dasher’s dystopian future tale.

Thomas wakes up with no memory of his past and as the latest anonymous recruit to a group of teenage boys camping out on the edge of a towering labyrinth.

No one really knows what’s on the other side – only that once you’re in, you’re not coming back – but everyone wants to get out and find out what lies beyond.

Directed by feature film first-timer Wes Ball and starring Dylan O’Brien (Stiles from the Teen Wolf TV series), the movie’s supporting cast includes Brazilian-English actress Kaya Scodelario (Skins, Moon), Ki Hong-Lee (The Nine Lives of Chloe King), Will Poulter (We’re The Millers) and Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Jojen Reed from Game of Thrones).

The Maze Runner is tracking for a Sept 19 debut in the US, with a swathe of international releases the same week, including screens in South American and South-East Asian regions; a few territories will have to wait longer, including France (Oct 15), the UK and Ireland (Oct 24) and Japan (Feb 20, 2015). – AFP Relaxnews
