“Travel is a business I love.” Insight Vacations CEO John Boulding speaks with passion as he shares his thoughts on the travel industry and the choice destinations for 2016.
Boulding, who started of on Insight’s marketing team in 1985 after having been in the travel industry since the 70s, believes that there is this whole concept of making friends during the holidays and staying in touch with people that you meet while travelling, because of the shared memories and experiences together.
Where travel is concerned, Boulding believes in creating value rather than scrimping on the pennies and perhaps end up paying more in the long run.
“My question always is ‘What is real value?’, because if you go for the lowest price, you’ll most likely have a product that is using lower quality hotels that are not well located, you’ll have less included, which means you’ll have to spend more when you get there. And if you’re staying at a hotel outside town, you’ll spend more on transportation to get to places.
But with the way the ringgit is at the moment, Boulding does have some advice for travellers who are more budget conscious.
“One of the most important things is to make sure you’ve prepaid as much as you can before you travel so that you’ll not pay local exchange rates when you get to the destination,” he said.
There are many bucket lists for travel, but if you’re still not sure where to go for your vacation, here is the Top (or most popular) 10 Travel Destinations in 2016 according to Boulding:
2. Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal) and Morrocco
3. Balkan Peninsula (Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria and Eastern Europe)
4. Central Europe (Scandinavia, Switzerland and Germany)
7. Lowlands (Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg)
8. Baltics (Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia)
9. United States of America
10. South America (Peru, Brazil, Argentina and Equador)
