If you are a Muslim travelling overseas for business or leisure, finding halal food might be a concern for you. But now, with the recent launch of a new Halal Food Guide by Tourism New Zealand, this hopefully will no longer be one of your worries when travelling to the land of the kiwis.
The guide, which was developed with support of the Kiwi Muslim Directory and Federation of the Islamic Associations of New Zealand, will feature a list of both halal-certified restaurants and cafes, as well as those offering vegetarian or vegan food. It also provides general tourism information for Muslim travellers.
Tourism New Zealand’s regional manager South and South-East Asia Steven Dixon said: “We acknowledge how important access to information on suitable dining options is to the overall experience of our Muslim visitors and the guide demonstrates our commitment to enhance New Zealand as a destination for these travellers,” he said.
The Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand president Hazim Arafeh said: “The Halal Food Guide provides greater reassurance to Muslim consumers and will prove to be an invaluable resource to Muslim tourists and business travellers to the country.”
It can be downloaded from www.newzealand.com (Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia regional websites only). – Ming Teoh
