If you love nature and your idea of a perfect day is hanging out at the park where there are plenty of flowers and greenery, then you would probably love the idea of visiting the Secret Garden at 1Utama Shopping Centre.
There are few signages and only certain lifts in the shopping mall can get you to the upper roof (UR) where it is located, so it is somewhat a “secret”.
Just take the specified lifts to the upper roof to be greeted by a sanctuary of colourful plants and flowers nestled in a beautiful landscape.
Open only during the weekends, admission to the garden is free.
Why you should go
At 2,787sq m, it is said to be the largest rooftop garden in South-East Asia, and features around 500 species of plants.
If you want to visit a garden but don’t wish to be totally outdoors in case of bad weather, the Secret Garden is ideal because it is located in a shopping centre.
This also makes other facilities such as supermarkets, restaurants, washrooms and cinemas conveniently close at hand.
What to do
Walk around, explore the garden and discover the different varieties of plants and flowers. Enjoy the fresh air, sunshine and being outdoors, close to nature.
Take lots of photos and selfies. The Secret Garden is an ideal Instagram spot because of its beautiful landscaping.
There are also benches in the garden where you can sit and read a book or just enjoy the surroundings.
If you’re visiting during the afternoons, it can get rather hot as there are some unshaded areas at the rooftop garden. So, do remember to slather on the sunblock and wear a hat.
Who will like it
It goes without saying that nature lovers will like this place.
Tired shoppers who want to take a break from their shopping and the crowds might also like it.
The Secret Garden is a popular spot for photography, especially among Instagrammers and selfie addicts.
