Movie awards season may be over, but filmmaking glamour is still very much alive. That doesn’t mean those of us at home can only live vicariously through our TV screens, though.
As a matter of fact, there are many destinations that bring to life some of the greatest scenes from films. For a taste of movie magic, Agoda has compiled some holiday ideas inspired by past year’s blockbuster hits and award winners.
Taste of action
Do you fancy playing an action hero? Then Queenstown, New Zealand, is the place to satiate your thirst for life on the fast lane. Here’s where Mission Impossible: Fallout filmed its helicopter action sequence.
Craft your own adventure by going on a helicopter ride. At the same time, don’t pass on the chance to experience other extreme sports. Activities range from bungee jumping to heli-skiing and Zorb-ing.
If you’re thrilled by the idea of science fiction, then head to Oahu, Hawaii, where Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom was filmed. You’ll feel as if you’re in prehistoric times with the backdrop of sea, volcanoes and lush nature.
Hip city breaks
If there’s one thing that Singapore does extremely well, it would be marketing their country to the world. The republic’s promotional efforts got a boost last year thanks to a little movie called Crazy Rich Asians.
Settings in the movie – from the famous Gardens by the Bay to the food hawker stalls at Newton Food Centre – are great additions to the itinerary of travellers keen to explore the Lion City.
For another kind of urban exploration, check out Busan, South Korea, where parts of Black Panther were filmed. The city comes alive at night with glamorous underground casino and swanky cocktail lounges and nightclubs.
Sing your heart out
Lady Gaga’s remake of A Star Is Born is one of the highlights at award shows this year and it’s been renewing interest in Los Angeles’ music venues.
Many of the movie’s concert scenes were shot across a number of places: Greek Theatre, Regent Theatre and the Shrine Auditorium.
Elsewhere, classic rock music fans can head to the filming locations of the award-winning biographical film Bohemian Rhapsody. The film was framed around Queen’s Live Aid performance at Wembley Stadium in London. Wembley is also one of the most popular venues for major artists to perform. – Mohammad Saifullah
