Where are Malaysians celebrating the New Year? According to online travel booking platform Agoda, although many Malaysians are celebrating within the country, other South-East Asian places are becoming increasingly popular as destinations to usher in the New Year.

Top destinations for Malaysians who are celebrating locally are Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Melaka and Kuching, while those celebrating overseas are heading to Bangkok (Thailand), Taipei (Taiwan), Hat Yai (Thailand), Tokyo (Japan), and Seoul (South Korea).

For three years in a row since 2016, Kuala Lumpur has remained the top destination to ring in the New Year for Malaysians.

What better place to watch the fireworks than against the backdrop of the Kuala Lumpur city skyline with the iconic Petronas Twin Towers and Kuala Lumpur Tower?

On the global front, according to Agoda, the top destinations in the world to kick-off the New Year are Tokyo (Japan), Paris (France), and New York city (US).

In Asia, travellers are heading to Tokyo, Bangkok, Taipei, Seoul, Osaka, Pattaya (Thailand), Taichung (Taiwan), Hong Kong, Bali (Indonesia) and Chiang Mai (Thailand) to watch the New Year’s Eve fireworks.

Travellers are also headed to these European cities for usher in the New Year: Paris, London, Barcelona, Rome, Berlin, Amsterdam, Istanbul (Turkey), Prague (Czech Republic), Madrid (Spain) and Milan (Italy).

In North America, these cities rung up high as destinations to ring in the New Year: New York City, Las Vegas (Nevada), Los Angeles (California), Orlando (Florida), Oahu (Hawaii), San Francisco (California), Chicago (Illinois), New Orleans (Louisiana), Miami (Florida)  and Toronto (Canada).
