The New Year festivities are set to rise to great heights in Bangkok this year. The capital of Thailand will be hosting Beautiful Bangkok, a 60-storey light-and-sound display from seven top local artists.
The high-tech 3D projection mapping and laser show, hosted by Magnolia Quality Development Corporation Limited (MQDC), is happening until New Year’s Eve at the Ratchaprasong district.
Ratchaprasong is famous for festive displays and “countdown” parties.
The second installment of Beautiful Bangkok will take place at Magnolias Ratchadamri Boulevard (MRB), a 60-storey residential building that also hosts Waldorf Astoria Bangkok.
MQDC chief executive officer Visit Malaisirirat said the event will cement Bangkok’s reputation as Asia’s “countdown city”.
“The annual shows will spotlight Bangkok as a great place to greet the New Year, a countdown city on par with Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney.
“Beautiful Bangkok celebrates New Year by commissioning the greatest artists to capture the city’s true beauty – the happiness of its people,” he said.
The artists commissioned are P7, Mue Bon, Pai Lactobacillus, Tikkywow, Keep Your Eyes On team, TRK and Bonus TMC.
This year’s event will also feature members of the public who post their finest smiles on Facebook with the hashtag #BeautifulBangkok. The show will incorporate 226 of these photos.
