Talk with Helena Christensen

What was the Versace’s Spring 2018 show like? If you did not have the time to see or attend the show, Helena Christensen and ’90s supermodels such as Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford, Carla Bruni and Naomi Campbell walked the runway together in the honor to founder of Versace brand, Gianna Versace.

Helena Christensen did not walked the runway for several years but it did not seem strange to her. She even show the more confidence, she was more powerful then she ever was. She told us that she cherished that period. She said, ‘The Golden Age of Supermodels’. “I am still friends with the girls I started out with and we try to keep in touch, even if we’re rarely in the same room, let along the same country, at the same time,”.

Since the period of ’90s, she paved a distinctive artistic path for herself. When the “Nylon” was established in 1999, she was the creative director.  Having worked as seasoned photographer for Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue. Her personal photographs were displayed  in London, New York and Amsterdam. Now a days, she has her own fragrance oil line. Additionally, she is involved in the humanitarian work in Oxfam in Peru which is the birth place of her mother. The humanitarian work she does concern the climate change.

After the Fashion Wees ended, talented OG supermodel answered our questions in the form of email interview. The topic was about nostalgia for ’90s supermodels, self-care, beauty, and her partnership with the Lumity (anti-ageing supplements line).

GRITTY PRETTY: People, media as well, love to ponder about the Golden Age of Supermodels in the 90s. As you were the significant part of it, is it the same period you like to reminisce about as well.

HC: I am more thankful now than I was in that time. I still socialize with the girls I worked with and we are maintaining the relationship. Even though we are not in the same room not country to be honest. It is marvelous since we were the group of girls in the same shoes experiencing the strange and amazing life. Maybe it is hard to grasp what was that like, but we do not have to explain, we just get together and laugh.

GP: You started modelling when you were 9. When was it when you consciously started taking care of your body?

HC: To tell you the truth, I was not doing and trainings until the moment I figured our that I wanted to be stronger and more athletic. It was about 12 years ago when I started boxing.

GP: Do you have the fitness routine?

HC: The routine depends on where I am and what I am doing. If I am not in the town, I will definitely go to run or swim if there is a possibility for it in the place I am at the moment. Pole dancing is something I am into at the moment, but it is very difficult and demanding. My favourite routine is boxing. It sort of become a ritual for me.

GP: How did you partnered with Lumity supplements.

HC: During a trip to London, I crossed path with Lumity in Harrods. I have been taking the supplements ever since.  It is the supplement that I take in the morning and in the night. I am of the opinion that if you take care of your body inside, you will see the result on the outside as well. They have approached me to be their ambassador. I knew it would be a perfect fit as I was familiar with the brand’s philosophy, I was aware of the results from the clinical trials and my personal experience of using the supplement.

GP: Has the beauty always been the priority for you?

HC: When it comes to natural beauty, then yes. I am passionate with the freckles, suntanned skin and a glowing complexion. I am lucky enough for using the products for that, such as Nimue. Also, I am taking the right supplements that gives the sparkle in my eye which gives me the strength and will for all the projects I am on to.. Only after one month of using the Lumity, there was a noticeable lamination and hydration of my skin. I travel with plane a lot so feeling that the skin is less dry is a great thing. I feel more “powerful” and I sleep even better.

GP: Sorry for asking, but do you have the beauty routine? Do you wear much makeup?

HC: I keep it as simple as possible. I use small amount of Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant to gloss my lids which present them with the natural shine. Or, I’ll take some Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon eyeliner with the touch of blush. I cherish the red lips and I adore Chanel’s La Fascinante.

GP: Our readers might not know that have the perfume collection called deadofnight. What encouraged you to go that way?

HC: My friend Elizabeth Gaynes (founder of niche fragrances line strangeloveNYC and sustainable fragrance sourcing company, GaiaOne) came to me to proposing the collaboration and creation of a unique perfume based on pure oud. I smelled the first version in the early beginnings and I was literally fascinated and I decided I did not want to miss this adventure. It was entirely different from anything I tried before. It stunned my senses. I love natural and genuine scents like the one in deadofnight, it is an extension of your own scent – only boosted and mixed with very rare components.

GP: Share with us the next steps.

HC: I will go as a photographer with the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR, to UGANDA to take photos and have a conversation with the refugees, especially with the women about their lives. I will attend the wedding in Rio, which will be exciting. We are also exited about launching of 4th perfume by our scent company.
