Shu Uemura Blanc Chroma Brightening & Polishing Gentle Cleansing Oil, RM145 to RM330
I’ve actually used this product before but apparently not correctly! Explains why it didn’t really work then. Once I got it right, it was amazing! You just need a few pumps of oil and massage all over your face including eyelids and lips.
Remember that your face and hands must be dry. After that, run your hands under water and massage your skin again so that the oil emulsifies and turns white. Make sure you rinse thoroughly. This product was very effective and it removed all my makeup. In addition, as it’s also a cleansing oil, you don’t need to double cleanse. I found the whole ritual rather soothing and once it was washed off, I was left with a glowing and luminous complexion. — Dzireena Mahadzir
Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Replenishing Cleansing Oil, RM163
I’m always on the look out for a makeup remover that can eliminate make-up easily, especially my waterproof mascara and eyeliner, and matte lipstick. The thing that I dread most is a makeup remover that leaves skin greasy with eyelash streaks and panda eye smudges. Yikes! This product spreads effortlessly and removed a fair bit of makeup after a few gentle massages. It has a pleasant scent, thanks to its formulation of botanical oils such as apricot oil, safflower oil and olive oil.
After applying some water, the oil transformed into a milky emulsion. This magically removed further impurities. After a few splashes of water, my skin felt clean and nourished minus the greasy feel. — Sheela Chandran
Biotherm Biosource Balm-To-Oil Deep Cleanser & Make-Up Remover, RM145
Almost every day, I use sunscreen, foundation, powder, blusher, mascara, eyeliner, eyebrow colour and eyeshadow on my face – that’s a lot of stuff to remove at the end of the day. The brief for this remover is to slap it on dry, rub gently in circular motion and then rinse off. It removes most of my makeup, save for slight smudges of eyeliner and mascara (I use waterproof), but nothing a pinch more of the balm won’t fix, although I prefer it if my removal process doesn’t take too long.
The product is pretty much scentless, but I don’t like the slightly greasy feeling left on my skin. Perhaps it’s a personal preference, as I prefer a slightly dry but very clean feeling after washing my face. — Nasa Maria Entaban
First Aid Beauty Milk Oil Conditioning Cleanser, RM118
Although I found this milk oil conditioning cleanser a bit too watery for my liking, it did its job. Fragrance-free, it claims to instantly dissolve waterproof makeup and condition skin, lashes and brows.
According to the directions for use, three to four pumps were needed for the face and eye area, but I felt that another two to four pumps were necessary, especially for heavier eye makeup. After gently massaging my face for 10 to 20 seconds, indeed the eye colours, waterproof mascara, tinted moisturiser and pore concealer I had on dissolved fairly quickly. For a thorough removal of the mascara, I used damp cotton pads at the end to wipe off the residual. — Wong Li Za
Shiseido Perfect Cleansing Oil, RM 109.18
I put my skin through a lot during the day layering on many products. From my moisturiser and sunscreen to foundation and makeup, it’s quite a bit that’s sitting on my skin all day. I find that this product provides me with a great balance at the end of the day as it is a quick process without too many steps.
Two pumps of the dense oil on dry hands and massaged onto a dry face is enough to cover my whole face, removing everything including my waterproof eye makeup. After about 20 seconds, the cleansing oil rinses off easily with water leaving my skin feeling dewy and clean and not at all oily. I found this product saved time and was easy to use. — Nadine Fernandez
Caudalie Make-up Removing Cleansing Oil, RM95
What I look for in a make up remover is that it gets the job done well and as quickly as possible. While I enjoy putting on makeup, taking it off can be a chore. I usually don’t go for oil-based removers because my skin is borderline oily and I prefer light textured removers. But I may make an exception for the Caudalie Cleansing Oil. Even though it is oil based, it’s surprisingly light.
It feels satiny when applied and my skin felt fresh with absolutely no greasy residue. The ultimate test was removing my longest-lasting lipstick and it passed with flying colours. It has sunflower seed oil, sweet almond oil, vitamin E and grapeseed oil and a pleasant fragrance. With a pump function for easy dispensing, this is a product I would recommend. — S. Indramalar
Innisfree Green Tea Balancing Cleansing Oil, RM75
What I really like about this cleansing oil is it doesn’t feel oily on my skin after use. I’m currently using a cleansing oil which is efficient but leaves a greasy feeling, so the Innisfree Green Tea Balancing Cleansing Oil is a wonderful option. I just need to apply a small amount all over my face.
Dab fingers with water and gently rub until all the makeup is removed and then cleanse with water. Mascara and long-wear lipstick are nicely taken off with gentle rubbing. This product says it removes excess sebum and makeup, while keeping skin clean and moisturised with its amino acid and mineral enriched green tea.
My skin feels clean, without feeling dry and the best part is I don’t feel the need to use an additional face cleanser. What a time saver! — Sandra Low
