There was much to learn from the beauty looks seen on the catwalks of Milan Fashion Week recently.
From throwback hairstyles to tropical colours, the city’s approach to Autumn/Winter 2016 was bold and expressive.
Designers dug deep for hair inspiration, and the answer came in the form of the finger curls so symbolic of the 1920s and 1930s. Salvatore Ferragamo slicked the waves down flat to the head using wet-look gel for an androgynous look, adding a low-scooped ponytail at the nape of the neck for a contemporary twist.
Meanwhile, over at Marni the look was looser and more girlish, with the waves pinned back off the face in a relaxed chignon.
Theatrical eye makeup stole many a show, not least Fendi, where makeup artist Peter Phillips got playful with a tropical palette, doodling around the eye area for a psychedelic result.
I’M Isola Marras followed suit, using contrasting tones of canary yellow and fuchsia to make the eyes pop.
Emporio Armani used bright lash extensions to add a paradisiac flutter to his show.
One of the more pared-down looks spotted on the runway was that of bleached eyebrows, which made space for the attention-grabbing eyes, lips and hair.
Giamba scuffed out the brows to add an abstract dimension to the models’ makeup, which featured bold swipes of liner sweeping under the eye from the nose to the temple. Meanwhile Giorgio Armani used the technique to draw the eye to the big floppy curls that were pinned loosely to the models’ heads, tumbling down into their faces in a haphazard and romantic way. – AFP Relaxnews
