Dior’s artistic director Kim Jones has designed custom ensembles for BTS. The K-pop boyband will be wearing his designs during their upcoming world tour “Love Yourself: Speak Yourself”. This is the first time that Dior has created men’s stage wear for a pop band.
A global music sensation, the seven-member South Korean boyband has sold over 10 million album since its debut. BTS is the first-ever Korean act nominated for a Grammy, as well as to have landed the top spot on the Billboard 200 and Social 50 charts. It was also named named one of Time‘s 100 Most Influential in 2019.
Having met Kim Jones earlier this year, the members of BTS were said to have discovered an appreciation of the designer’s fresh, refined yet playful aesthetic for menswear. Not only that, they apparently shared a liking for his signature hybrid couture, which uses cutting-edge technology.
“I love BTS because they are really great guys and also super into fashion. Everyone I know is kind of crazy about them!” shared Jones, in a press release.
His designs for BTS comprise of a series of of seven stage costumes for the band based on the modern and utilitarian sportswear silhouettes of his men’s Pre-Fall 2019 collection, as well as its futuristic spirit.
BTS will unveil the looks at the kick off of their worldwide stadium tour, “Love Yourself: Speak Yourself”, in Los Angeles on May 4 2019, followed by performances in cities including London, Paris and Sao Paolo.
