There were over a hundred designers who showcased at this year’s edition of Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW). But only one was lucky enough to have walked away with a trip to Milan, Italy – Kioue of Super Sunday.
In collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), KLFW selected the man to attend a business enhancement programme curated by footwear exhibition Micam and Italian footwear association Assocalzaturifici.
Kioue (born Zulkifli Salleh) is known to champion creativity beyond social norms. Designs that his label puts out are inspired by lifestyle themes such as culture, music and art.
The risk-taking and extensive creativity of the Malaysian designer and the extent of which his brand has grown in the local fashion scene was said to be the reason why he was chosen for the programme.
Super Sunday’s interest in venturing into shoes and bags was another factor, which was seen in the incorporation of its monograms and logos into a range of different sneaker models.
“The brand has shown great advancements in their apparel, showing their eagerness in experimenting with different ideas that often eradicate social norms,” the ITA pointed out.
“The experimentation allowed them to fuse subcultures and communicate visuals through their designs and have encouraged the younger generation to experiment with looks and styles that exceed the barometer of today’s society.”
