Prints in various shapes, colours and sizes. Designs that appear resolutely classic, yet come with an exciting twist. The latest Cruise collection from Melinda Looi straddles both modern eclecticism and old-school glamour.
The Malaysian designer’s signature is apparent throughout the offerings. They are rich in exclusive detailing, and carry a unique mix of fabrics such as jacquards, batik and laces.
Looi specially created four oriental prints for the collection. According to her, the inspiration came from the beautiful and vivid colours of Shanghai, as seen during the night.
“I believe in well-designed styles, of which customers can and would want to wear over and over again” explains Looi, referring to the pieces that were designed with versatility in mind.
Mandarin collars of the dresses, for example, can be snapped on or off. This can work in turning a cheongsam into a cocktail dress and back again, as it is needed for different occasions.
Looi’s collection also features a wide variety of cuts, prints and styles. It presents something that every woman can definitely treasure for the upcoming Lunar New Year celebrations.
