Spotted at the recent 2017 Busan Fashion Week were creations by Jimmy Lim. The Malaysian designer sent out his upcoming Spring/Summer collection on the runway, which drew inspiration from the world-famous My Fair Lady musical.
According to Lim, his muse was the character of Eliza Doolittle. He also said that his designs came about from “challenging perceptions of a familiar past and offering consciously altered expressions of the future”.
“I wanted to step out from the norm with a wittier avant-garde collection, while taking references from old movies, classical music and making it fantastically fashion forward!” he commented.
Lim presented jogger pants and lab coats in luxurious suiting materials, as well as contrasting feminine pieces like slender dresses and skirts. Relaxed cuts were observed throughout the whole collection too.
He also featured an experimental range of hand knotted and manually crinkled garments inspired by paper. The texture, which appeared in both neutrals and darker hues, gave simple designs a fresh look.
Couture fabrics of crochet lace and burnt silk velvet were further paired with electric sequin embellishments. Gentlemen jackets appeared in deconstructed, grungy and modern forms, as well.
The eponymously named Jimmy Lim label is best known for garments that portray an effortless chic. It is said to have been designed for wearers who prefers a little attitude in their dressing.
