Versace has announced that singer-songwriter Zayn Malik is the new face of its Spring/Summer 2017 campaign. Photographed by his girlfriend, model Gigi Hadid, the images were captured on iPhones and digital cameras.
The campaign also stars model Adwoa Aboah, and will appear in various forms, both individually on social media, and grouped together in print as if appearing on a Versus Versace feed.
“The Versus campaign captures everything that is special about Zayn, Gigi and Adwoa. They are young people who define the mood of their generation with their honesty, energy and their love,” said designer Donatella Versace.
Shot in an evening while hanging out in a suite at the legendary Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, the images are a raw, honest and revealing study of relationships, friendships and the passions of the Versus Versace tribe.
In the pictures, Malik and Aboah are seen wearing pieces from the latest Spring/Summer collection, which echoes a new manifesto for Versus Versace – a real wardrobe for a fresh generation.
Zayn donned pieces such as the iconic Versus Versace leather jacket, complete with silver lion’s head buttons, and a new faded denim jacket with the iconic safety pin as fastening. His matching faded jeans are ripped and torn, then lined with metal mesh.
Aboah sported pieces reflecting the unified mood of the collection, as well as metal mesh tanks and fine knit tops with shredded panels lined with metal mesh.
“It was sick to work with Versus. Donatella is a G. It was extra special that Gigi shot the campaign. Looking forward to following up with my Versus collection that drops in June,” stated Malik.
The Spring/Summer 2017 campaign precedes the Zayn x Versus capsule collection, which will only be revealed in June. This is to be immediately available for purchase upon the launch.
