Naomi Watanabe is a Japanese actress and comedian who is famous for her impersonations of popular artistes and their music/music videos.
Her most popular acts are Beyonce’s Crazy In Love and Dreamgirls, which promptly (and deservingly) earned her the title, “Beyonce of Japan”.
In 2015, she was featured in Pentatonix’s Can’t Sleep Love music video.
Watanabe is also an established fashion designer; her fashion line is called Punyus, a word in the urban Japanese slang that means “chubby”. Apparently, US actress and screenwriter Lena Dunham is a fan of the brand.
When she’s not preparing new collections for Punyus, Watanabe does live comedy shows around Asia as well as in Los Angeles and New York in the United States. Ahead of one particular performance recently in Tokyo, the comedian does a quick makeup tutorial for Vogue magazine.
In the video, Watanabe explains why she chooses certain colours and brands, and talks about what she would normally do during her shows. She also makes hilarious quips and facial expressions.
“In general, I make a lot of really weird faces, so I need people to be able to see my eyebrows moving,” she says about her very bold glitter eye makeup.
