Britain’s royal family – that’s Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, his wife Catherine Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge and their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte – are currently in Canada on an eight-day tour of the country.

The family arrived at the 443 Maritime Helicopter Squadron in Victoria International Airport on Sept 24 and were greeted by Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife, Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau, Governor General David Johnston and his wife, Sharon and British Columbia Premier Christy Clark. From pictures taken by the press, it seems George was a little moody that day (perhaps he was feeling jetlagged from the nine hour-plus flight), while Charlotte looked, well, as excited as a tot could look.

Hanging on tightly to his father’s hand, tiny George refused to wave like he usually does in front of a crowd and even hid behind William. After his mother, Kate, gave comforting words, George began to warm up to the small crowd… until Trudeau asked him for a high-five and got snubbed.

Since their arrival, William and Kate have done several official visits around Victoria, Vancouver and Bella Bella, including a trip to the Great Bear rainforest and Immigrant Services Society.

Though the couple have more than 30 engagements in Canada, their children will spend most of their time hanging out with nanny Maria Borrallo at Government House in Victoria. This is the first official royal tour for 16-month-old Charlotte, while her brother George is pretty much a veteran (he’s only three years old!) having been with his parents to Australia and New Zealand in 2014.

Official reports reveal that George and Charlotte will be joining their parents for some sporty and outdoorsy activities soon during the tour.

In his welcome speech, Trudeau said: “I know you’ve visited Canada before. But as any parent who has traveled with children knows, it’s a different experience when you bring your whole family with you. I want to commend you – and thank you – for introducing our part of the world to Prince George and Princess Charlotte.”

Here are some pictures from their trip so far.
