International and regional celebrities will grace the Singapore International Film Festival’s 25th edition from Dec 4-14.
THE 25th Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) from Dec 4 to 14 will be attended by an array of stars from film industries all over the world. These include world-renowned auteur John Woo, and actresses Zhang Ziyi, Juliette Binoche and Cheng Pei Pei.
Woo and Zhang will be attending the festival for Woo’s latest film The Crossing 1, an epic love story spanning half a century of modern Chinese history.
With over 40 years of filmmaking experience, Woo – who directed box office hits such as Face/Off and Mission: Impossible II – will also be conducting a master class for the public on Dec 5.
SGIFF will also be giving its first Honorary Award this year to legendary director Im Kwon-taek. Im – one of South Korea’s most prolific and respected directors – has directed more than 100 films over six decades. A tribute to Im will see three of his films screened at the festival – Mandala, Revivre and Village In The Mist.
In keeping with the festival’s spirit of unearthing new talent, this year the spotlight falls on Ahmad Abdalla El Sayed Abdelkader, 36, an Egyptian director, editor and screenwriter. He will be attending the event as this year’s Filmmaker in Focus.
In a press release, SGIFF executive director Yuni Hadi said: “Having regional and international stars attend the film festival will enable the filmmaking community as well as filmgoers to further expand the conversations on films and the art of filmmaking.
“We look forward to a thrilling 11 days next month.”
The festival will take place at multiple screening venues on the island, including Marina Bay Sands, Shaw Theatres Lido, National Museum of Singapore, The Projector (formerly Golden Theatre) and The Arts House. Tickets for SGIFF are available for purchase at all Sistic outlets.
