Fresh graduates of the Kuala Lumpur Speakers’ Club held their audience captivated with topics such as “Little Packets of Joy,” a speech about the tradition of giving angpow; “The Best Medicine”, one lady’s take on humour; and several other topics thought up by the graduating class.

A presentation of diplomas by guest of honour Raja Puan Muda Perak Tunku Soraya Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah, and the club’s president, Tunku Dara Tunku Tan Sri Naquiah Almarhum Tuanku Jaafar followed the speeches, given by 10 new members.

Held at the Concorde Hotel Kuala Lumpur, the club’s instructor, Roopi Mohandas Lakhiani introduced the graduates, who had just completed 10 weeks of training and preparation for the ceremony.

Calling themselves “The Talking Titans” with the theme “Larger than Life”, the new graduates — Datin Kaysha Urbani, Datin Rubab Fatima, Amy Kong, Fadzillah Abdul Rahman, Joyce Tam, Meera Kumaran Vellanchery, Melina Soh Siew Yann, Severine de Soras, Shivi Khanna and Tracy Moo Yeon Lan spoke on topics covering habits, beliefs and traditions.

The Kuala Lumpur Speakers’ Club was formed in 1970, with the objective of organising lessons and training in public speaking and to promote goodwill amongst women of all nations.
