#GirlsCanDoAnything is AirAsia’s initiative to empower and inspire young women to dream big. Their message is that girls can achieve anything they put their minds to, and they believe their women workforce personifies this can-do spirit.
In AirAsia, there are women working as pilots, engineers, licensed flight dispatchers and in many other areas, including in higher management.
With 39 women pilots at AirAsia and 15 in AirAsiaX, as well as eight women engineers in AirAsia and one in AirAsiaX, there are flights handled by an all-female crew, when work schedules align. It does not often happen but these days, hardly anyone raises an eyebrow at an all-female flight crew, for no one doubts women’s abilities anymore.
In line with their belief in women and girls, AirAsia has partnered with Star Media Group (SMG) on a campaign to celebrate women this March. Called WOW-Women Do Wonders, the project highlights women’s contributions and the vital roles they play.
AirAsia and SMG recently collaborated to document Flight AK5110 by an all-women crew from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu on Feb 13.
Every member of the crew – from the flight’s pilots and cabin crew, to the flight dispatchers who operate from AirAsia’s Operational Control Centre and the engineers who certified the aircraft – were women.
Women were literally flying high that day.
