The Bar Awards returns to Malaysia for the second time to celebrate the best of the best in the Malaysian cocktail scene, and members of the public are invited to nominate their favourite bars for the 15 awards that will be up for grabs this year.
Last year, Coley Cocktail Bar was named Best Cocktail Bar in Kuala Lumpur, sweeping four awards at last year’s inaugural ceremony. The Bangsar bar faces some stiff competition this year, with a number of excellent bars popping up over the past year.
Also, this year, for the first time ever, the awards have been extended to the Penang cocktail scene. Penang will get its own city-specific categories – Bartender of the Year and Bar of the Year, which will be voted on by a panel of Penang based judges.
Unlike other ceremonies in Malaysia, which tend to be popularity contests voted by the public, The Bar Awards are judged by a panel of professionals from the Malaysian F&B industry including bartenders, bar owners, restaurateurs, distributors, and members of the media.
After the nominations are finalised through the public nominations, the panel will then vote to narrow down the field to the top 10, followed by another round of voting to choose the Top 4 and winners for KL and Penang. The winners will be announced at The Bar Awards party, held on November 25 at a location in KL, which will be announced later.
Public nominations are now open for members of the public to nominate for their favourite cocktail bars, beer bars or bartenders for the honours. To submit your nominations, visit thebarawards.com/nominate. Nominations close on Oct 7, so you don’t have much time left!
