We love it when chefs cook like regular folk. Jamie Oliver even coined the term ‘naked’ for that way of cooking. “What I cook at the restaurant isn’t what I cook at home,” he says in the opening credit for his hit TV series The Naked Chef.
Cooking at home has got to be simple, it’s got to be tasty, and it’s got to be fun, he adds. “It’s stripping down the recipe to its bare essentials.”
So, with that in mind, we invited celebrity chef Daniel Green into our “survival kitchen” for our newest video series On The Menu. His challenge: Cook three healthy and delicious dishes with a strict budget for ingredients, a limited amount of kitchenware, and as fast as he can!
Chef Green rose to the occasion like a champ, whipping up a savoury bowl of Italian pasta, a walloping plate of Korean mixed rice and a warm, soulful serving of Thai vegetarian curry – each dish within 30 minutes, and each one with just a single pot or pan!
Check out his recipes for gnocchi al pomodoro, made with supermarket shelf pasta and tinned tomatoes; eggplant and spinach Thai red curry; and bibimbap prepared with chicken, zucchini, spinach and red onions, a quick and easy meal for anyone cooking on a budget.
