One is from the East. The other from the West. But they have one thing in common. They are both culinary masters.
And soon, Hong Kong singer and TV chef Nicholas Tse and Canadian celebrity chef David Rocco can be seen battling each other in Fox Networks Group Asia’s five-part series Celebrity Chef: East Vs West.
“I have done some of my own cooking shows. But I have never done a one-versus-one battle with anyone before. So, I really had to put myself to the test,” said Tse, 37.
The duo were at Sunway Velocity Mall, Kuala Lumpur, earlier today to promote the first season of the upcoming cooking show.
The culinary programme will see the two celebrity chefs travelling across Asia to learn about the food and culture in various cities and put their culinary skills to the test by preparing a local dish handpicked by a local chef.
They would be blindfolded and asked to taste a local dish or ingredient and then, they would be required to cook something based on what they had tasted.
Both of them agreed that they have very different cooking styles, making it one of the highlights of the show.
“We wanted each other to do well and we also wanted to win. But we wanted to win on our own merits and not by sabotaging each other,” Rocco quipped.
Filming began early this month in China, Macau and the Philippines, making Malaysia their last stop.
Sunway City Kuala Lumpur and the Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat in Ipoh are the official destination partners in Malaysia for the series.
Tse, a singer, songwriter, actor and entrepreneur famous for his roles in Hong Kong movies such as Shaolin, Dragon Tiger Gate and New Police Story, first tried his hand at becoming a TV chef and food critic in 2014.
His hit travelogue-cooking show Chef Nic features travel stories and cooking tips.
The show also featured A-list Asian celebrities such as Donnie Yen, Jackie Chan, Fan Bing Bing and Angelababy.
Rocco, a best-selling author and executive producer, is best known for the television series David Rocco’s Dolce Vita.
