The sloping wall panels and pebbled walkway exude an inviting feel, beckoning guests to explore what lies beyond.
At the end of the path is the M Spa & Fitness, a calm sanctuary tucked away on the ground floor of the Genting Grand Hotel, Resorts World Genting.
Known for its signature Balinese massage, the spa has won two awards – the Indulging Spa of the Year and Award for Excellence (Best Spa Concept), from Hospitality Asia Platinum Awards (HAPA).
With a built-up area of about 1,690sq m (18,200sq feet), the spa features facilities such as steam rooms, jacuzzi, sauna, unisex treatment area, a fully-equipped gymnasium, nail and foot studio, hair studio and café bar.
The spa offers treatments that include facial, skin, body massage and facial treatments.
My treatment consisted of an aromatic salt foot bath and massage, a 30-minute body scrub, one-hour full body massage and one-hour facial.
For the body scrub, the skilled therapist used a blend of oatmeal, tamarind, honey and fresh watermelon juice. The milky, gentle concoction gave out a soothing feeling while working to remove dead skin cells to soften skin.
After a quick shower, I was ready for the spa’s signature Balinese massage, which did not disappoint at all.
As the therapist carried out pressure point, kneading and deep tissue techniques, it really felt like she unravelled knots in my shoulders and upper back that I didn’t know I had!
The last part of the treatment consisted of a Valmont facial called Vitality of the Glaciers. After cleansing, toning and exfoliating steps, there was a relaxing face massage and mask, so relaxing I dozed off.
The facial treatment moisturises and brightens skin, promoting blood circulation and encouraging radiant skin.
After enjoying a cup of hot tea and cool jelly on the side, we proceeded to check out the Theme Park Hotel, the oldest hotel at Resorts World Genting which was built in the 1970s.
Located right next to the highly anticipated first-in-the-world Twentieth Century Fox World theme park, the hotel is best described in two words – fun and playful.
There is this oversized bench for customers to sit on while waiting to check in at the 8,000sq ft (743sq m) lobby.
‘Handwritten’ signages, line art and cartoon illustrations are prominently seen all around the hotel. Equally quirky and whimsical are the restrooms, with a theme of green and white polka dots and brightly coloured Easter eggs.
Children can also look forward to the corridor linking the two wings of the hotel which is designed with a hopscotch pattern on the floor.
With 448 rooms, the resort is family-centric, with rooms designed for four and six people. (A quick tip: if you can’t find your room number at the door, look down.)
Most rooms feature a tatami-style raised platform where two queen-sized beds comfortably provide rest for four guests. In the Sixers Room, a built-up bunk bed above the platform holds another queen-sized mattress, altogether hosting six people.
The raised platforms also provide storage spaces below, with compartments to store luggage and house room safes.
Artwork around the wall-mounted TV sets gives out a playful feel while hand drawn designs on blackout roller blinds result in original works of art in every room.
After a relaxing afternoon, we headed over to the Coffee Terrace to enjoy an extensive dinner buffet spread that includes Asian and Western fare. With an array of sumptuous delights, we were spoilt for choice.
