Local R&B singer Resh, previously known as Reshmonu, is shaking things up in a big way. It’s a lot to take in at first. Besides going by a new stage name, his latest release Who Am I also sees the 39-year-old artiste rocking a new hairdo, exchanging his signature dreadlocks for a stylish pompadour, and introducing a slick, polished sound.
With the help of American producer Jim Beanz who has worked with everyone from Britney Spears and Whitney Houston as well as being the man behind the music of the hit TV show Empire, Resh has churned out some solid R&B-pop tunes.
The six-track release comprises one catchy offering after another. Opening number Half The Man is a soulful R&B ballad that sports an infectious melody from start to finish. It brings out the best of Resh’s warm vocals and is probably one of the EP’s strongest efforts.
It’s hard not to feel like grooving to the EDM-infused Can’t Live Without Ya and Live For The Lights. The latter, in particular, is a straight-up fun, head-bobbing club anthem.
Who Are You is another standout, with the singer fusing traditional Indian instruments and modern beats to great results.
Half The Man, the EP’s lead single, is already climbing the music charts in the United States and it’s not hard to see why. We’re keeping our fingers crossed.
