Like the film’s rebellious protagonist Margo Roth Spiegelman, the Paper Towns soundtrack doesn’t play by anyone’s rules either.
To begin with, it’s a potpourri of diverse musical genres, ranging from indie pop and electronica to a stripped down piano lullaby, with only one unifying theme: The celebration of youth.
It’s interesting to note that the soundtrack doesn’t rely on recognisable names to ensure its success; the “biggest” artistes on the list are Vampire Weekend and Haim which appeal more to indie listeners anyway.
The others deliver tunes that are just as stellar, notably Search Party by Sam Bruno, Radio by Santigold, Runaway (U & I) by Galantis and Look Outside by Nat & Alex Wolff (Nat Wolff is also the film’s lead actor).
The movie itself isn’t worth watching but the soundtrack is worth listening to.
