If there was a “where are they now?” type of show for Akademi Fantasia (AF) winners or past contestants, rest assure that Stacy Anam wouldn’t be on it.
The Sabahan performer – whose name is now Ummu Shaikhah Stacy Anam – was only 18 when she won the AF competition in 2008. Her debut single Aku Stacy peaked at No. 1 on the local radio charts and was nominated in the Anugerah Juara Lagu’s Best Song category.
In the same year, she won the award for Most Popular New Female Artiste at Anugerah Bintang Popular, cementing her status as a force to be reckoned with in the local music scene.
Now at 25, Stacy is currently burning up the local charts with her latest single Not For Sale – featuring rapper Altimet – from her third album #1.
The petite singer also acts as a “Juri Juara” on the latest season of AF. The live show which airs every Sunday on Astro Ria has Stacy offering constructive comments and encouragments to the Season 12 contestants via AF’s official website.
That’s not all. She can now add “MTV World Stage Malaysia 2015 opening act” to her ever-expanding resume. The energetic entertainer who will be sharing the stage with the likes of Carly Rae Jepsen and Jason DeRulo talks about why the crowd should come to the show in their dancing shoes.
Congratulations on being voted by fans as the winner for #MTVMostWantedAct. Where were you when you got the news and how did you feel about it?
I was at home. My manager informed me about it. I was very excited and thankful especially to the fans who voted for me to have this opportunity.
What does this recognition from MTV and the fans mean to you?
It’s an opportunity for me to showcase my talent and what makes me unique as a performer. Plus, I get the chance to perform on the same stage as internationally-renowned artistes. This event would make a good addition to my profile as a singer/performer.
What have you got planned for your performance on Saturday?
I’ll be taking the stage with my dancers as usual. But we’ve a few tricks up our sleeves with some changes to the dance routine and music arrangement to get the crowd more excited. Everyone can join in and dance along with us. It’s going to be really exciting!
Do you get nervous before a live performance like this?
Yes, of course I’m nervous. And worried as well, because I need to practise the moves. At the same time, I need to work on maintaining my stamina throughout the performance. It’s hard because my schedule is packed with other work commitments.
If you could go back to your days as an AF contestant, is there anything you would do differently?
When I think about it, I might not be here if it wasn’t because of what I did on AF. So, there’s nothing I would change.
The MTV World Stage Malaysia is happening this Saturday at 7.30pm at Surf Beach, Sunway Lagoon, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
