Liew Seng Tat’s Lelaki Harapan Dunia has received the most number of nominations for the 27th Malaysia Film Festival (FFM) with a whopping 13 in total!

Lelaki Harapan Dunia nominations include Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor for Wan Hanafi Su. Set in a kampung, Lelaki Harapan Dunia tells the story of a group of men coming together to relocate an abandoned wooden house.

Nominations were announced at the Malaysia Film Festival launch event at Finas in Ulu Kelang, Ampang, Selangor yesterday. Present was Datuk Kamil Othman, the director general of Finas, and a stable of entertainment industry heavyweights including Maya Karin, Datuk Yusof Haslam, Fazura, Susan Lankester and Lina Tan.

Director Liew said he was honoured by the nominations.

“I think these nominations are important because it’s a sign of recognition from the Malaysian film board and industry. I’m really surprised,” said Liew.

Following closely behind Lelaki Harapan Dunia is Nik Amir Mustapha’s Terbaik Dari Langit with 12 nominations including Best Film.

Nik Amir is proud that one of his actors Amerul Afendi, 30, is also nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

“I feel that he is really underrated as an actor so I’m really happy that he got a nomination. He truly deserves it,” said Nik Amir.

Dollah Superstar received nine nominations including Best Film, Best Actor for Awie and Best Director for Khabir Bhatia.

The results for 28 main categories will be announced at the 27th Malaysia Film Festival on Sept 5. The event is set to be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
