Michelle Monaghan – who took up modelling to pay for college, only to quit school later and pursue it full-time – sure knows how to pick her projects.
In an acting career that spans 15 years, she has appeared in a string of hits (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Gone Baby Gone, Source Code) and starred opposite good looking actors like Robert Downey Jr and Jake Gyllenhaal.
Early this year, the 39-year-old received her first Golden Globe nomination for her performance in the first season of True Detective.
Next month, she can be seen in Pixels, a movie that unfortunately has already been getting chunks of negative reviews in the US, as an army lieutenant who leads four men (played by Kevin James, Adam Sandler, Josh Gad and Peter Dinklage) to fight giant-sized videogame characters wreaking havoc everywhere.
In a webchat with Monaghan, she shares her experience working with these actors: “You know what? I had so much fun working on this set with all the guys … It was really such an enjoyable process and in terms of the creative process, anything goes.
“You certainly say what’s on the page, the writing’s great, but this kind of movie lends itself to improv. And with these kinds of guys and comedians around, you can’t help but laugh and enjoy yourself.”
Pixels opens on Aug 13 in Malaysia.
