M For Malaysia has been selected as the Malaysian entry for the Best International Feature Film award, previously known as Best Foreign Language Film award, at next year’s Academy Awards.
The documentary film captures the historic 14th general elections (GE14), which saw Pakatan Harapan taking over the government and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad becoming prime minister for the second time.
Directed by Ineza Roussille – Dr Mahathir’s granddaughter – and Dian Lee, M For Malaysia is now making its way in the film festival circuit, being screened at the Busan International Film Festival presently.
Earlier this year, it was screened at the Centre for Asian American Media Festival 2019 (CAAMFest) in San Francisco and DocEdge in New Zealand.
M For Malaysia will be up against 92 other films at the Oscars, slated to take place at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Feb 9, 2020.
M For Malaysia joins a small group of films – Puteri Gunung Ledang (2004), Bunohan (2012), Lelaki Harapan Dunia (2014) and Redha (2015) – chosen to represent the country in the prestigious film award.
