From eye-opening real-life stories to intricately-designed characters and set pieces, the TV shows coming this August are not to be missed!
The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance
The 1982 puppet animated fantasy movie, The Dark Crystal, gained quite a following and it’s no surprise why the upcoming Netflix series is so highly-anticipated. The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance takes place before the events of the movie.
Set in the planet Thra, the series follows the journey of three Gelflings, a species native to the planet who try to start a rebellion after discovering a terrible secret behind the Skeksis’ (a bird-like race) power.
Combining classic puppetry and visual effects, the characters’ intricate aesthetics took “hundreds, or even thousands of workers” to bring to life, according to director Louis Leterrier in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes. Mark Hamill, Sigourney Weaver and Taron Agerton and more voice the characters.
The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance premieres Aug 30 on Netflix.
The Inventor: Out For Blood In Silicon Valley
The Inventor was released last March but is picking up momentum again after receiving an Emmy nomination recently for Outstanding Documentary.
The premise is fascinating. Elizabeth Holmes devotes her life to inventing a miniature blood testing lab that everyone can own. This in turn will help people identify diseases in their bodies earlier and treat them.
Investors bought into her vision, and the funds started pouring in. Her company, Theranos, was once valued at US$9bil.
What happened next is shocking. Suffice to say, things didn’t go according to plan.
The Inventor: Out For Blood In Silicon Valley is available on HBO Go.

From the infamous unsolved death of JonBenet Ramsey to the lesser-known disappearance of Hannah Upp, a schoolteacher with a rare form of amnesia, journalist Elizabeth Vargas tries to unearth new updates and perspectives to gripping real-life cases in The Untold Story.
