US columnist Philip Berk has again clarified that a quote in his profile on actor Keanu Reeves was taken from an actual interview he did with the actor, and not fabricated as alleged by an unnamed source.
In his profile Keanu Reeves says he is “the lonely guy”, Berk quoted Reeves as saying he was a “lonely guy”. Berk said he took the line from a 2003 article he wrote for Galaxie, a now-defunct magazine under The Star.
Berk again confirmed that all his interviews did take place and has transcripts of them. “They are on my computer, along with all previous articles I’ve written, but none are (explicitly) dated,” he replied in an email to Star2.com.
The profile on Reeves was published by Star2.com on May 28, 2019, for Berk’s long-running column Hollywood Confidential. In the article, the Matrix star called himself “the lonely guy” when asked about what love was to him.
However, “a rep for Reeves” told an American media outlet that the interview never happened and alleged that the quote was “fabricated”.
Berk is a member (and former President) of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, a non-profit organisation of journalists that report on the US entertainment industry for media groups outside the US. The HFPA also conducts the Golden Globe Awards.
The other quotes in Berk’s Q&A were from a press conference at the Four Seasons New York in April 2019, held between the HFPA and Reeves who was promoting his movie John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.
