Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad graced the special screening of Raj Of The East at KLCC on March 12. Tun Dr Siti Hasmah was also in attendance.

Directed by Tan Sri Adam Kadir and filmed in 2014, Raj Of The East is based on the life of Hugh Clifford, who came to Malaya in 1883 at the age of 17 to become a cadet in Perak. He was then appointed as the British Resident of Pahang, and later became the Governor of North Borneo.

But the film is only a semi biopic as Adam has added a fictional love story to Clifford’s younger days.

In his speech, Kadir said: “Raj Of The East was shown at Laemmle Theatre in Hollywood for seven days from Dec 7 to Dec 13, 2018.

“The recent Oscar-winning movie Roma was screened simultaneously with Raj Of The East on one of the seven screens at the Leammle.”

Raj Of The East however has not received a general screening date in Malaysia as of now.

The film stars Carl Graham (as young Clifford), Ian Braig (older Clifford), Chloe Chan, Yasmin Yusuf, Rahim Razali, Rashidi Ishak and Ellie Suriati.
