Both 2000’s Unbreakable and 2016’s Split were fantastic movies because of their originality in the realm of comic book films.
Director-writer M. Night Shyamalan went the extra mile for both titles; he created fully-realised villains, something that is usually lacking in Marvel/DC flicks. Hence, it’s great that Shyamalan’s latest flick Glass is about the baddie from Unbreakable.
Characters from both Unbreakable and Split are featured in Glass, namely David Dunn (Bruce Willis), Elijah Price, known also by his pseudonym Mr Glass (Samuel L. Jackson), Kevin Wendell Crumb and the multiple identities who reside within The Beast (James McAvoy) and Casey Cooke (Anya Taylor-Joy), the only captive to survive an encounter with The Beast.
In this new film, David tracks down The Beast while Mr Glass has something up his purple sleeve. In the trailer, it seems like all three men end up at a psych ward and are treated by a female doctor (Sarah Paulson).
It should be interesting to see how Glass unravels. Here’s hoping that Shyamalan – who has produced hits and misses – will present a riveting tale here.
Glass opens at GSC cinemas nationwide on Jan 17.
