After her departure from Hawaii Five-0 last year, actress Grace Park has joined friendship drama, A Million Little Things.
The series centres on a group of strangers who become friends after getting stuck in an elevator. Years later, the group is still as tight-knit as ever. Then, one of them decides to take his own life, which causes the rest of the group to take stock and reevaluate their ways.
Park, 44, tells Entertainment Weekly why she signed on to the show: “These characters weren’t really living the lives they needed to live. That struck a strong chord with me. From the outside, people may think, ‘Oh, she’s really living the life she wants!’ I feel like I’m so far away from doing that.”
In the show, Park plays a curt, no-nonsense career woman. “She doesn’t need to be likable. She’s just doing the things she needs to get done,” the actress describes her character. “Not everyone might like her, and I thought that was actually quite a relief of pressure, that you didn’t need to make your character funny or likable or cool or sexy or the lead.”
Park also vaguely touches on her decision to leave Hawaii Five-O after seven seasons. (Word on the street is there was a pay inequality among Hawaii Five-O cast members.) “There were a number of factors spanning the show that affected the non-renewal of my contract. I’m grateful for the lessons learned, but I chose what was best for my integrity.”
A Million Little Things airs every Thursday at 10pm on Foxlife (Astro Ch 711).
