Irish singer Sinead O’Connor has converted to Islam, adopting the name Shuhada’ Davitt in the process.
The singer, who is best known for smash 1990 remake of Prince’s Nothing Compares 2 U, made the announcement via Twitter yesterday.
This is to announce that I am proud to have become a Muslim. This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian’s journey. All scripture study leads to Islam. Which makes all other scriptures redundant. I will be given (another) new name. It will be Shuhada’

The 51-year-old singer, who had changed her name to Magda Davitt last year, also tweeted a photo of her wearing the hijab, and also a video of her singing the Azan, apologising for getting some of the pronunciations wrong.
