Skop Productions managing director Datuk Yusof Haslam, accompanied by director Syamsul Yusof, have taken legal action against the party who uploaded Munafik 2 online on Sept 19.
At a press conference today (Oct 12), the duo claimed that an employee of a graphic company in Perak, who goes by the handle Sasuke Kun, uploaded the horror flick – which is still showing in Malaysian cinemas, as well as overseas including Indonesia – on his Facebook and Instagram accounts. His post was then shared by other users.
After lodging a complaint with the police and relevant authorities for further investigation, the production house got the go ahead to file a civil suit and a motion for injunction against the said party.
Munafik 2 was released at cinemas nationwide on Aug 29, and it went to break all kinds of records – earning RM21.6mil in four days, and RM40mil in 17 days – to become the No. 1 local film of all time.
The sequel was made with a budget of RM2.9mil. The first film, which was released in 2016, raked in RM17.04mil at the Malaysian box office.
