Charlotte Rae, best known as the loveable Mrs Garrett on both Diff’rent Strokes and The Facts Of Life, died on Sunday (Aug 5) at her home in Los Angeles, according to EW.com. She was 92.

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Rae was involved in theatre and radio, and then later in television. In 1978, she was cast as Edna Garrett, the kind housekeeper, in Diff’rent Strokes.

She played the same character in The Facts Of Life, a spin-off from Diff’rent Strokes, which revolves around a girls’ boarding school and their kind house mother. Rae earned an Emmy nomination for the role in 1982.

Over the years, Rae did guest star gigs in series like Sisters, ER, The King Of Queens, Pretty Little Liars and Girl Meets World.

EW.com also reported that she’d been diagnosed with bone cancer in 2017.

The site shared her statement at that time. One of her quotes was: “At 91, every day is a birthday. (In my book) I want to tell everybody to celebrate every day, to savour the day and be good to yourself, love yourself, and then you can be good to others and be of service to others.”
