Malaysian EXO fans just could not wait to see their favourite K-pop idols in action during The EXO Planet #4 – The EℓyXiOn in KL 2018.
The show was scheduled to start at 5pm but EXO-Ls (what fans of EXO are known) in Kuala Lumpur had already started coming into Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, bright and early on Saturday morning, perhaps hoping to catch a glimpse of the boys during the sound check session.
With tickets that sold like hot cakes, The EℓyXiOn was definitely one of the most anticipated K-pop concerts of the year.
In its native Korea, the first three-day gig of the tour (66,000 tickets) sold out in a record-breaking 0.2 seconds, and crashed the server of one of its official ticketing partners.
No mean feat for a hot K-pop act like EXO, which topped Forbes Korea’s Power Celebrity List in 2015 and 2016, and continues to dominate the K-pop scene today.
Eight of the group’s members – Baekhyun, Chanyeol, Chen, D.O., Kai, Sehun, Suho and Xiumin – took to the stage and dazzled their fans with 30 songs in the two-and-a-half hour sell-out show.
Lay (Chinese name Zhang Yixing), the group’s ninth member, was again missing from the concert line-up as he was swamped with solo projects in China.
The group thrilled Malaysian fans with its polished choreography to new hits like The Eve and Ko Ko Bop from its fourth Korean album The War as well as crowd favourites like Growl, Lotto and Call Me Baby.
Malaysian EXO-Ls were not to be taken lightly either. When the lights went out, thousands of glow-sticks lit up the arena like stars twinkling in the night. And, their deafening roars of approval powered the boys to give their best show to date.
Throughout the evening, the highly-charged 10,000-strong crowd screamed themselves hoarse declaring their unending love and chanted the names of each EXO member during the members’ solo sets.
The group’s fourth world tour, The EℓyXiOn, kicked off at Seoul’s Gocheok Sky Dome in November last year. The tour went on to play in Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, and Hong Kong before coming to Malaysia.
The boys are set to return to Seoul’s Gocheok Sky Dome for an encore show this week (July 13 to 15), before heading to Macau’s Cotai Arena in August.
