It is understandable that an actress cannot say no to an iconic role like Lisbeth Salander, even if she has to face being compared to previous actresses who have played the character.
Both Noomi Rapace and Rooney Mara were brilliant when they took on the role respectively in the films based on the acclaimed Millennium book series created by Stieg Larsson. But Claire Foy (of The Crown) – the latest actress to portray the girl with the dragon tattoo – does cut a striking figure in the film’s trailer as the outcast vigilante, with that short punk hair, black outfit and tough attitude.
The Girl In The Spider’s Web is an adaptation of the fourth book in the Millennium series, written by David Lagercrantz, following Larsson’s death in 2004.
The books revolve around investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist who gets Lisbeth to help him with tough cases. Spider’s Web is directed by Fede Alvarez, the man behind the heart-stopping 2016 thriller Don’t Breathe.
In an interview with Collider.com, screenwriter Steven Knight said: “With The Girl In The Spider’s Web, the girl (Lisbeth Salander) is really the central character. She’s the whole thing. It’s not really (Mikael) Blomkvist.”
