Seriously, who needs George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon when we can get a caper film with Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter?
In Ocean’s 8, Bullock plays Debbie Ocean – sister of Danny Ocean (Clooney of Ocean’s Eleven) – who has been rotting in prison for almost six years. During that time, she has been devising the biggest heist of her life to take place during the famed Met Gala in New York City.
The target: diamonds worth US$150mil that will be around the neck of actress Daphne Kluger (Hathaway) who is attending the gala.
Once she’s out, Debbie starts recruiting a team – old partners Lou Miller (Blanchett) and Tammy (Paulson), jeweller Amita (Kaling), street con Constance (Awkwafina), hacker Nine Ball (Rihanna) and fashion designer Rose (Bonham Carter).
Like the Ocean’s Eleven films, Ocean’s 8 has its share of quirky characters. A heist flick with gorgeous ladies, beautiful clothes, expensive jewellery set at a glamorous gala? This basically screams FUN.
Gary Ross (Seabiscuit, The Hunger Games) directs.
