After a disappointing teaser for Venom, a lengthier trailer for the Spider-Man spin-off has been released. Viewers finally get to teeth-baring, tongue-slavering alien symbiote in all its glory.
Venom is ranked among the 100 greatest comic book villains of all time and one of Spider-Man’s most dangerous enemies. The film version was introduced in director Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 (2007), when its human host was played by Topher Grace.
Director Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) has created a Venom that’s also faithful to the comic book depiction. Fleisher’s film tells the origin of the symbiote and how the alien meets its human host Eddie Brock, played by British actor Tom Hardy (The Revenant).
Venom is the first film in Sony Pictures’ Marvel Universe, a companion the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Whether Hardy’s Venom will ever cross paths with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in unclear as of now.
Deadline.com reported Hardy at CinemaCon this year, during the trailer reveal, saying that “I wanted to do a movie that my son could watch.” Michelle Williams also stars in the film as Brock’s love interest.
Venom is scheduled to open in Malaysian cinemas Oct 4.
