Guy Ritchie attempted to breathe new life into the King Arthur story last year with King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword. It turned out to be a bad idea.
Now, Otto Bathurst, whose previous work includes directing episodes of TV series Peaky Blinders and Black Mirror, is injecting some grittiness to the Robin Hood tale with a feature film titled simply, Robin Hood.
Taron Egerton from Kingsman and Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx lead the cast in this “origin story” as Robin and Little John. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Foxx likened Robin Hood to Kathryn Bigelow’s war drama Zero Dark Thirty.
He said: “The way they shot it was crazy, it looks like you’re watching Zero Dark Thirty. We’re shooting with our bows but they computer-generated it so it’s rapid-fire, almost like an AK. I saw that and was like, ‘Oh, they ain’t ready for this’.”
Robin Hood co-stars Eve Hewson (daughter of U2’s Bono) as Maid Marian, Emmy-winner Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline) as Sheriff of Nottingham, and Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades Of Grey) as Will Scarlet.
