Avicii, whose real name is Tim Bergling, died in Oman yesterday. He was 28. His publicist Diana Baron said in a statement published on Billboard: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii.”
“He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”
The Swedish DJ was credited for spearheading the electronic dance music (EDM) genre. He released his debut album, True, in 2013 and is best known for hits like Wake Me Up, Lonely Together, Waiting For Love, Without You and Levels.
He landed two Grammy nominations for Best Dance Recording for Sunshine and Levels in 2012 and 2013.
