Magnum P.I. reboot has cast actor Jay Hernandez as the titular private investigator, according to Variety. The 40-year-old American will play Thomas Magnum, a decorated ex-Navy SEAL who, upon returning from Afghanistan, re-purposes his military skills to become a private eye.

Tom Selleck, who now stars in the TV drama Blue Bloods, played the role in the original series that ran from 1980 to 1988.

Hernandez’s recent movie appearances include Suicide Squad, Bad Moms and A Bad Moms Christmas. He also had parts in Friday Night Lights, Hostel, and in the Netflix fantasy-action film Bright. On the TV side, he recently starred in Scandal, Nashville and The Expanse.

Magnum, P.I. is one of several similar projects ordered to pilot at CBS. The network also ordered a pilot for the reboot of female-led ’80s cop drama Cagney And Lacey, an adaptation of the Oscar-winning 1997 movie LA Confidential, and a revival of the multi Emmy-winning sitcom Murphy Brown. – Reuters
