The cast and crew of the show are now in Kuala Lumpur to prep for the upcoming show.

The cast of Hairspray The Broadway Musical has arrived!

A team of 67 performers and backstage crew from Britain arrived at Fraser Place in Kuala Lumpur earlier today.

Katharine Moraz who plays lead character Tracy Turnblad said she’s excited to start the show soon.

“Yeah, I’m really looking forward to performing soon. I’ve heard good things about Asia and I also can’t wait to try out different cultural experiences here,” said Moraz, adding that she’d love to check out Batu Caves.

Meanwhile, Damian Williams, who plays the iconic role of Tracy’s mum, Edna Turnblad, also said that he can’t want for the musical to kick off.

“It’s great to have the opportunity to bring British theatre here. We can’t wait to see the reaction of the audiences here when we perform our shows later,” said Williams.

Set in the 1960s, Hairspray The Broadway Musical follows the journey of “pleasantly plump” teenager Tracy Turnblad who dreams of dancing on the popular TV programme The Corny Collins Show.

However, Tracy has been told that she doesn’t have the right look to be on the show.

Eventually, though, she does get a part on the show and even becomes an overnight sensation.

The production of Hairspray The Broadway Musical will feature songs like Good Morning Baltimore, The Nicest Kids In Town, Welcome To The 60s and You Can’t Stop The Beat.
