Popular comedy show Lawak Ke Der is set to return to Istana Budaya in Kuala Lumpur for its fifth installment, promising to take this venue by storm.
Presented by Tall Order Sdn Bhd, Lawak Ke Der 2016 – season five – will run from May 5-8.
The hit comedy revue in Bahasa Malaysia will feature performances by local comedians such as Harith Iskander, Afdlin Shauki, Douglas Lim, Nabil Ahmad, Kumpulan Bocey, Sherry Al-Hadad, Rayza Mukmin, Jihan Muse and Shuk Balas.
Talk about an exciting mix of established and upcoming comic talent.
“I can promise you that it’s not the same line-up as before. I have my core guys like Harith, Afdlin and Douglas, who built the Lawak Ke Der brand together with Tall Order and Istana Budaya. But I have also added new comedians who I think have the talent and popularity. The idea is to bring in new comedians and develop them,” says Datuk Hans Isaac, the show’s producer and director.
Hans is also Tall Order’s founder and managing director.
Sherry (May 5) and Nabil (May 6-8) will hold down host duties at the upcoming Lawak Ke Der, while the evening show schedule reads Kumpulan Bocey, Afdlin, Lim and Rayza for May 5, Harith, Lim, Rayza and Kumpulan Bocey on May 6, and Harith, Afdlin, Lim, Rayza and Kumpulan Bocey on May 7.
The matinee show on May 8 features Lim, Harith, Afdlin, Jihan and Shuk.
Hans, who runs through the scripts, says “something special happens when you put these guys together.”
“What I can see is that everybody wants to outdo each other. It’s not about competing with each other but giving the best they can for the audience,” he adds.
Pure entertainment is the end game here. A crossover audience is always a bonus if you look at line-up of comedians, coming from the Malay and English language scenes.
“You will get good quality stand-up comedy. As per every year, the content is fresh,” assures Hans.
The material for the shows will not touch sensitive topics such as race and religion.
Staged for the first time in 2011, Lawak Ke Der has consistently packed out venues. Hans encourages the comedy fans to take advantage of the early bird discounts, available until April 20, before tickets run out.
Enjoy 15% discount for the May 6-7 shows and 20% discount for the May 5 and May 8 shows.
Hans says the different line-up of comedians every night guarantees to keep things interesting.
The support of Malay comedy enthusiasts, according to Hans, is important in keeping the Lawak Ke Der show series alive and if the demand is overwhelming, there might even be additional shows.
“Malaysians are getting too serious and too upset with each other. We need to laugh. This show is built for them. I hope people will recognise that and see what we are trying to do here,” he concludes.
Lawak Ke Der 2016 plays at Panggung Sari at Istana Budaya from May 5-8. Tickets are priced from RM48. For ticketing information, visit www.airasiaredtix.com or call 03-4026 5558.
